When I was standard 4 (our education system), they taught us how a kid burnt down the house and found out how good the cooked pigs were - so that was how human found the cooking!
And another story was how people found fire. First they reared fire and one day, a lightening made a fire from a branch. So they found what fire was and realised to use fire.
They were scientific stories based on human evolution.
You were taught this at school? Where are you from? If you don't mind me asking.

The Mayan failed themselves from fear and disunity, not prophecy that caused them to fear and disunited. The other thing was technology - Mayans didn't even know metallurgy. And their religion was brutal and it had already failed them before the Spanish arrival. The problem is Mayan didn't fail straightaway when Columbus arrived in. They failed from rumours and misbeliefs caused by prophecy.
What about the Indians and Chinese from the East who have made fame from Vedas and astrology. Then why Mayan?
When did they write their prophecies?
Before the arrival of Columbus or after?
I should tell you %u2013 those people won%u2019t stop prophesising no matter how they got wrong again and again.
You ask those people who prophesied - why they did such things. Did they want the destruction or did they want to go to heaven? That was their psychological problem.
If all religions were true, which one should be truest? Let them be equally true but are they going to see Adam in heaven? Who are going to eat other forbidden fruits?
As their prophecies got wrong, if the next one was to be true, how would they know they'd get to heaven not hell? :))
